Participants will create art that communicates a personal narrative beginning with an exploration of their own ‘language’ of symbols, lines, shapes, and colors. They will craft their own handmade brushes and stamps, experimenting with expressive mark-making, creating a series of collage papers. These papers, along with personal photographs, found objects and ephemera, will then be used to construct a unique composition that becomes a visual story, capturing memories, emotions, and identity.

‍ ‍Location Notes: The building has no visible signage, so please rely on the address. Entrance and parking are located behind the main building. Use your GPS, as there will be no staff available to provide directions.

About The Workshop
Participants will create art that communicates a personal narrative beginning with an exploration of their own ‘language’ as symbols, lines, shapes, and colors. They will craft their own handmade brushes and stamps; experimenting with expressive mark-making, creating a series of collage papers. These papers, along with personal photographs, found objects and ephemera, will then be used to construct a unique composition that becomes a visual story, capturing memories, emotions, and identity.

What To Bring

  • Black and white photos (or photocopies) that hold personal or significant meaning

    • Such as people and/or places

  • Small personal objects, artifacts, text

    • Such as buttons, jewelry findings, old letters

  • Water

  • Lunch or Snacks

  • Optional:

    • 2-3 colors of paint (any type)

    • 2-3 different types of brushes

    • Mark making colors (pastels, oil pastels, colored pencils

About The Artist: Sue Conner
Sue Conner is a mixed media artist who combines encaustic, handmade papers, found objects, and photography. Through layered surfaces, she creates art that invites reflection, offering a quiet space to find meaning, solace, and connection.
