Marti White
Artist Statement
Marti’s work with paper is primarily in collage. However, she calls herself a mixed media artist as she is also interested in works on paper using a variety of media including pastel chalk, acrylic paint, oil stick and oil pastel, as well as work in acrylic on canvas and in the use of fiber to create art quilts. Recently Marti’s work has moved in the direction of small works on 300# watercolor paper using papers that she colors herself with acrylic paint and ink and then adds line work to refine the collage. She has been exploring the basic design formats of the cruciform, the tau, and the bridge.
Rust dye processes are another area that Marti has recently been experimenting with. She has used the method to dye several grounds – fabric, mulberry paper, and watercolor paper. Marti is experimenting with using these materials in various constructions. Most of Marti’s work is non-representational with color being a dominant element in all her work.
