C.J. Shane is a visual artist and writer who lives and works in Tucson, Arizona. Her primary interest is in painting, artist's books, relief printmaking, and handmade paper. Shane has bachelor and master's degrees, but her most important art education experiences have been in non-academic settings, especially at Penland School in North Carolina and at Haystack in Maine. She has exhibited nationally and internationally in places as far away as France, South Africa, and Australia. Her work is found in both private and institutional collections. Artist Statement
The natural world, especially the beautiful Sonoran Desert, continues to be the greatest source of grounding and inspiration in my life and work. I push my landscape paintings to the point of abstraction in order to convey the mysterious energy of the desert.
