Sherrie Posternak has been involved in the arts since 1972, exploring photography, jewelry design, mosaics, collage, mixed media, encaustics, and the retailing of fine crafts. Her work is exhibited locally, regionally, nationally, and on-line.

Artist Statement

The medium of encaustics has been my love for the past two years. This is the first process that has allowed me to truly transfer what is in my head and heart, onto and into the finished piece. In some cases I combine other materials like photographs and natural materials with the encaustic medium (pigmented beeswax and damar resin), but it’s the wax that grants the work texture, amazing graphic, color, and a depth that is difficult to produce any other way. My recent pieces take a hard look at abstraction and the removal of pre-conceived notions, looking at the way Mother Nature responds to Her own or Man’s creations over periods of time, with the results of layering, erosion, and a new beauty.
