Artist Statement

“The Psalms” is a series of 150 small (6" x 6") works, one for each chapter in the Book of Psalms in the Old Testament. Each work interprets verses that capture the essential meaning of the Psalm, cause a strong emotional response or that have personal significance. The verses were selected based on literary, spiritual, metaphoric or intuitive appeal or because they evoked images that could be translated into a visual form. Technically, “The Psalms” reflect my interest in abstract, expressionist, improvisational painting processes. Many of the works are acrylic on board. Most were made from textiles using a variety of surface design techniques.
